NMS Community,
I am reaching out to emphasize the importance of student and pedestrian safety during arrival and dismissal at Norton Middle School. While our parking lot was not designed with optimal traffic flow in mind, we have made adjustments and continue to explore improvements within the existing space.
The primary concern during these busy times is Safety—NOT Speed. Please drive slowly and attentively while on campus, keeping in mind that during arrival and dismissal, a large number of students are walking through the lot to and from parked cars. As warmer weather approaches, we anticipate an increase in walkers and bike riders, further reinforcing the need for caution.
I understand that pickup can sometimes feel slow and frustrating. However, I also receive frequent concerns about unsafe or reckless driving.
The safety of our students and community members MUST always come first.
Every driver on campus plays a critical role in keeping our students safe.
Please:
✔ Be patient—Avoid rushing through the lot.
✔ Stay alert—Expect students to be walking nearby.
✔ Drive cautiously—Slow speeds save lives.
✔ Be courteous—Respect fellow drivers and pedestrians.
Ultimately, the most important safety feature in any vehicle is the person behind the wheel.
Thank you for your cooperation in making our school a safer place for everyone.
