No School- Thursday February 26th

Posted Date: 02/25/26 (06:20 PM)

Dear Norton Families & Staff
After careful consideration Norton Public Schools will be closed again tomorrow. Please know that this was not a decision that I made lightly. I know these days out of school have a significant impact, especially after the vacation week. After conversations and collaboration throughout the course of the day with our facilities and transportation departments, the Norton DPW, as well as Norton Police and Fire I believe that this is the best decision for the safety of students and staff.

Our school buildings are ready to go. However, my primary concern is ensuring that students and staff can travel to and from school safely. While our DPW has done an outstanding job with the equipment and resources they have, the volume of this storm has simply exceeded capacity in many areas. Roadways remain narrow, snowbanks limit visibility, and bus stops are not always accessible. While another day may not get us to 100% with this incredible volume of snow (32 inches here in Norton!), I do hope another 24 hours will allow additional work to make travel easier around our town.

I do anticipate that our schools will open at the regular time on Friday. As we prepare to open, I ask families and student drivers to be careful and take extra precautions:

  • Allow additional travel time
  • Drive slowly and cautiously
  • Be especially mindful of children walking to bus stops
  • Watch for reduced visibility at intersections and around snowbanks
No matter how your child gets to school, please encourage them to leave home a little earlier, take their time, and be patient and cautious. Students who arrive tardy on Friday will be excused so that everyone has the time they need to travel safely.

Thank you for your continued patience, flexibility, and partnership. I know this has been a challenging stretch of days, and I appreciate the way our community continues to support one another.

We look forward to welcoming everyone back on Friday.

Stay safe
